“Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt.

Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into the pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account.”

John Gardner
(adapted from the book, Fish!)

It’s something that I glimpsed upon in my contact’s dream world. *smiles* [Hi, Wen Dee!!] It really captured my attention. It’s somewhat like what life is, or fate. At least that’s what I think. Nothing’s definite until you’ve reached it. A thing can be something else. Am I making any sense? Perhaps to myself, I am cuz all the ideas are in my head, finding cohesion. But Mr. Gardner did raise a good point, right? And it’s inferred that the journey is what counts.

Meaning… it’s one of the things in this lifetime that we look for. Live a life of meaning and dignity. It’s pretty subjective but it gives us the freedom to express ourselves. Meaning sets us free, Dignity sets limits for us. Nevertheless, if we are fueled with hope, faith, and love, then we are unconquerable.

it’s been raining the past couple of days and bittersweet memories flood my head. that’s why i love the rain. it brings melancholy and time seems to slow down. the sweet smell of the wet surroundings. the toasty warm feeling under the covers in the early morn. watching the drops of water illuminated by headlights. waiting for puddles of water to form. rain. signaling the arrival of spring and the end of winter. the season has been cold. but as sure as the seasons change, it will not be cold forever. the promise of new beginnings. life will once again flourish and love, blossom. a whole new chapter waiting to be written. yes, i am now turning the page toward the end of this story, ultimately closing the book and starting another. simple happenings can conjure complex thoughts… rain to season to life to death. one can only try, however puny an attempt but passionate still.

“imagine staring at a plane taking off
or watching a cruise ship pass right next to you
while you’re in a pump boat.
your heart beats wildly with the excitement
and wonderment effected by these events.
it’s something bigger than yourself.
a good book that you can immerse yourself in
or an afternoon you can use to kick back and savor.
your mind’s enriched and stretched with ideas
and life’s spent in a moment’s freedom.
it’s timely and timeless.
a leap of courage,
a touch of coincidences and patterns
that resulted to an exchange of thoughts.
an epiphany experienced.
sprinkle conversations over several mediums,
a dab of lightness and simplicity,
which lead to leveled expectations.
a symphony heard.
la soleil et le minuit se reunir.
awesomely orchestrated, i applaud.
and as you often say, ‘carpi diem'”

***like a plane that took off and a cruise ship sailing by, they’re going somewhere without you… ultimately, you’re left behind.

***like the love story between the sun and midnight, it was doomed before it ever began…
